Has anyone had a computer crash due to this, or received this message?

Your tom tom navigation device or your computer with Microsoft Windows XP may crash when you disconnect the USB cable. Microsoft XP windows Hotfix KB959765 distributed by Microsoft Corporation will prevent this from happening.

The computer which crashed was using windows 10 and since the map download site said that to start tioe operation the tom tom should be disconnected. I did just that and found the machine crashed.

Post Treat gPS like a USB

Don't forget your computer treats the GPS as a USB device. In IExplorer you could try right clicking the GPS and select unmount if it is available
