So I wanted to update my maps to have the entire US and Canada, which meant that I needed to get an SD Card, which I got a 32 GB one since anything smaller is almost hard to find these days. I'm on a mac, running Yosemite. Garmin Express installed the maps on the card no problem. When I tried to type in the address, it just gave me an error that said "Map data is not available".
I fixed it, and narrowed the cause down to one of two issues:
1. I had formatted the card as ExFAT. I'm not sure what this even is. I thought maybe it was an Apple implementation of FAT32. Maybe the firmware doesn't support ExFAT.
2. But the more likely candidate was, I had a space in the name of the card. I had called the card "GARMIN MAPS".
So I reformatted as FAT32, changed the name to eliminate the space, and reinstalled the maps and they are now working.
